ROOTS is excited to introduce our new dance program director Saskia Harmon.

As we say goodbye to one beloved member of the ROOTS family, we’re excited to begin a brand new chapter with another.

After three years of incredible growth under part-time dance director Robyne Kennedy, ROOTS welcomes three-year mentor Saskia Harmon as the new leader of our award-winning dance program.

When Saskia was growing up, her mom was secretary of a dance studio and a dance coach for the local high school, so dancing has always been at the center of her life. She graduated from the University of Tennessee, where she was captain of the nationally ranked dance team, and she’s been teaching dance for 16 years.

Prior to joining the team at ROOTS, Saskia was the manager at Pure Barre Brentwood. She was named Best Barre instructor of 2018 by Nashville Fit Magazine and she helped coach the Brentwood Academy dancers to National Champions last year.

Robyne proudly passed the baton to her “best girl” Saskia during the final recital of a weekend of performances at Vanderbilt’s Ingram Hall on June 3. The recital was themed “Momentum,” and Robyne pointed out that it was an especially appropriate name for the occasion.

“When I came on three years ago, we had 75 kids and a small dance room in the back of a building on Seaboard Lane,” she said. “We are here today in a brand new home in a brand new building, and it’s been such an incredible year with over 350 kids.”

During Robyne’s tenure, ROOTS has moved to its forever home on Southgate Court in Brentwood, rapidly expanded and increased our reach, and racked up plenty of honors along the way.

We’ve been named a Top 3 Dance Studio in the Williamson Parent magazine readers poll for three years running and a Top 3 Best Youth Dance Instruction facility in’s annual Sizzle Awards.

But beyond the awards, we’re most proud of the loving community that Robyne helped us create with our amazing students, dedicated mentors, and devoted parents.

“We’re so grateful to Robyne for joining us on this journey during the past three years,” said CEO Kyle Chowning. “ROOTS is growing so fast, and we’re thrilled about where we’re heading. With Saskia stepping in to lead our dance program, this is just the beginning of what will be an exciting new era.”

Robyne also said she can’t wait to see what Saskia brings to the ROOTS program.

“Saskia has been a mentor here for the last three years, and from the first day to my last, she’s been by my side,” Robyne said. “We are so thankful for her, and she is going to lead well.”
