ROOTS welcomes its newest violin mentor, Stephanie Wilson Harper!
Stephanie Wilson Harper (violin) has been playing violin for over 30 years. Although classically trained, she enjoys a wide variety of genres including rock, Irish-folk, country and praise & worship. As a violin mentor, Stephanie’s goal for her students is for them to find joy in music no matter what style they are performing. Regardless of age, experience or genre the student desires to pursue, the motivated and committed student will find Stephanie the perfect mentor in helping them to become the artist they wish to be.
Stephanie was introduced to the violin as an elementary school student in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and went on to become a member of the nationally and internationally respected Albuquerque Youth Symphony. Stephanie continued the study of violin performance with a scholarship to the University of Northern Colorado (UNC) in Greeley, Colorado. While a student at UNC, she performed with the UNC Symphony Orchestra, UNC Chamber Orchestra, Greeley Philharmonic, Ft. Collins Symphony and Cheyenne Symphony. Stephanie later performed with the Littleton Symphony, studied the Suzuki Method of violin instruction and began her first violin studio.

Q&A with Stephanie
I consider myself a foodie, so when I have the chance I love trying new foods and restaurants! It may not be fine dining, but Mexican food is my absolute favorite. I’ll admit I’m quite picky, but I grew up in New Mexico so I’m a bit spoiled. For me there is nothing tastier than enchiladas and rellenos smothered in Hatch Chile.
Place you spend most of your time:
My time is fairly divided so I don’t necessarily have a place I spend most of my time. I work full time, I’m a mother, a wife, and I’m a musician which means I’m always on the go.
Place you wish you spent most of your time:
I love being with my family, but when I’m not with them I’d rather be in the studio teaching or on stage making music! Having the opportunity to frequently visit my parents back home in Colorado would also be really nice.
A quote good enough to be Instagrammed:
“It’s better to be alone for the right reasons than to be with someone for the wrong ones.”
What do you want to be when you grow up?
I don’t want to grow up! But if I have to then I want to be a wife, a mother, and a musician.
What’s your favorite day of the week and why?
Sunday. This is the day I get to relax with my family. We go to church and enjoy our day off together.
Last thing that made you laugh out loud:
Most likely something one of my kids said. Those two crack me up!!
Your coffee order:
Venti skinny latte with 4 sugars. I know, the sugar defeats the skinny, but I figure I might as well try to be good!
