Anna Carroll

Anna Carroll (voice) loves using the arts to teach people about identity and who they are meant to be. There’s little doubt Anna has found her calling in musical theater. The Belmont University grad received the school’s highest honor, “The Margie,” for excellence in musical theater.

Hailing from Dallas, Texas, Anna has worked with a variety of well known New York casting directors, producers and composers in her nine years of comedic acting, musical theater and improv experience: Chuck Wagner, Mike Eldred, Rachel Potter (Les Mis), Jodi Benson (The Little Mermaid), Melinda Doolittle (Cinderella), Laura Bell Bundy and Denyce Graves (Christmas at Belmont) and Tina Marie, Kevin Kennison, Jennifer Waldmen, Mary Sugarman, Pasek and Paul, Ted Chapin (master classes).

Her shining moment came in the form of a solo during the professional production of Les Misérables at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center in Nashville.

But what she treasures is the ability to use her gifts and talent as worship to God. “It’s those moments when life ceases to be about ourselves and more about Him,” she says.

She’s passionate about the arts being present in schools and communities. When it comes to those she teaches, she’s best “at opening the eyes of my students to their full potential. I push them to go above and beyond what they think they are capable of.”

You can find her reading and writing at her local favorite spot, Frothy Monkey, during her down time. Here’s a little more about her!

Q&A with Anna

Where do you look for creative inspiration?
Old movies, the outdoors or watching “the greats” on YouTube.

What is your favorite down-time activity to reduce stress?

Of all the places you have traveled, which is your favorite?
Breckenridge, Colorado

What type of music did you grow up listening to? Is it the same now? What changed?
Grew up listening to oldies (my parents era of music) and radio Christian music. I still listen to both but my musical taste has expanded drastically. The only things I don’t really listen to now are country, rap and screamo.

What is your favorite all time movie and why?
Princess Bride–most quotable, and it’s brilliant.

If you could meet one author, performer who would it be and what wold you ask them?
Judy Garland–I’d ask her to sing a duet with me!

What is your favorite quote?

What is your favorite Bible verse and how does it speak to you?
Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says” (James 1:22, NIV). It is direct and full of truth, a verse I know I can always fall back on.
