The staff and mentors of ROOTS welcomes Jessica Stevens, our new intern!

jessica stevensJessica Stevens is ROOTS’ newest intern. She’s studying Organizational Communications at Middle Tennessee State University where she’s a member of the dance team. Her passion for dance began at an early age, but it really blossomed during high school when she competed with the Ravenwood High School dance team, which won three state titles and placed 2nd at UDA Nationals in Orlando. She became a member of the Music City All Stars and helped the team win their first national championship in jazz in 2011. After high school she spent a year at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where she was a member of the nationally ranked UT Dance Team. After her freshman year, she transferred closer to home to develop her passions of event planning and communication, which she’ll definitely get to learn more about at ROOTS!

Here’s a little more about what makes Jessica tick.

Q&A with Jessica

What causes are you passionate about?
My grandmother suffered from breast cancer, and I’m a firm supporter of the cause. I also work for Help-Portrait and I love the foundation of the organization. Lastly, I’m a strong supporter of the confidence coalition, which cultivates strength and inner beauty in young women.

Favorite local spot:
I’m a big fan of Starbucks. I love going there and spending time on myself. Plus, I’m a coffeeholic.

Coffee drink of choice:
Iced nonfat hazelnut latte in the summer and a cinnamon dolce latte when it’s cooler.

What is your favorite down-time activity to reduce stress?
Dancing is my stress-reliever. Movies come close in second.

What is your favorite quote or Bible verse and how does it speak to you?
“Believe in yourself and all that you are. Know that there is something inside you that is greater than any obstacle.” -Christian d. Larson

It’s so true. A display of true character is how someone acts in the face of adversity.
