ROOTS welcomes its newest mentor, Dani Elliot!

Dani Elliott

Dani Elliott (pianovoice) is a singer, songwriter and recording artist best known for lending background vocals to powerhouses including Miley Cyrus, Allen Stone, Sheryl Crow, Amos Lee, M.I.A. and The Roots. She wrote and recorded an EP, The Best Part, and has plans to release an album in 2017.

A highlight of her career was singing backup for Sheryl Crow, James Taylor and Stevie Wonder for President & First Lady Obama at the dedication of the Martin Luther King Jr. Monument on the National Wall in Washington, D.C. in 2011.

Connecticut-born, Dani attended The New School for Jazz & Contemporary Music in New York City, earning a B.F.A. in Vocal Performance. She’s passionate about the art of singing and how it can transform a student into an artist. She says the best students are ones who are committed to practicing and developing their craft – and those who can lean on their mentor to help correct their vocal challenges.

When she’s not working or teaching, she loves hanging out in the beautiful parks around Nashville, or eating ice cream and watching HGTV with her dog.

I would’ve loved to have seen Ella Fitzgerald, Otis Redding or Minnie Ripperton sing in person, and I wouldn’t ask them anything because I wouldn’t want to ruin the moment.

Right now, it’s “You’re further along than you think.”

What is your favorite Bible verse and how does it speak to you?
“Speak those things that be not as though they were.” because I need to do more of that.
